>>36924886>Except I'm asking for you to prove they used Kouta and Koumi over Yo and Mizuki but you have no proof for that since they only used these names in the same context they used Sun and Moon before (non canon pre-release names).Try again.
I don't understand this discussion. Sun, Moon, Elio, Selene, all those names were pre-release names and not mentioned in the games (not counting the demo), so how are you supposed to tell whether "Ray and Ailey" are overtaking "Sun and Moon" instead of "Elio and Selene"?
>they would never use Ray (like "ray of light") and Ailey (irish name that means "light") over UltraSun and UltraMoon as mere pre-release names! With the stance given by the Japanese examples though, it really doesn't make sense that Ray and Ailey are supposed to be just pre-release names instead of official names. The fact that they have meanings and themes like most of the rest of the official names makes them more in-line with the likes of Calem and Serena rather than Xavier and Yvonne.
I think Let's Go would settle the matter, not because of Leaf/Green though, but because of Chase and Elaine. So far those are only pre-release names, but if they turn out to be official names, then that means there's a precedent since Sun and Moon that they're using official names for pre-release media.
>>36924925It's the same reason why Ethan is not the same as Lyra, or how Brendan's not May. They go through similar stories, but according to the creator Lyra wasn't made with inspiration from Kris, they just both happen to be Johto girl trainers.
>>36925317She was unnamed in the comic that you're talking about, so they didn't really have a name for her until around FRLG, and even then it wasn't fully established as solidly as Red and Blue (the Rival) getting names in Gold/Silver.
