The rub is that stall is always going to have the same basic needs: Cover as many meta threats/builds as possible with ample recovery and hazard removal. There's only so many ways to do this efficiently at any given time, so generally there are only a few major stall archetypes with only minor variations between them. It's why stall net-teaming is so common. I don't blame stall players for net-teaming either; there's no need to reinvent the wheel when there's already a proven build, and what's the point in being "creative" and making your own version if it's just a slightly less optimal version of the proven build? But again, most of the skill is in the teambuilder, so if you're net-teaming there's just... not much left for you to do.
What I describe isn't necessarily specific to stall, but it's much more pronounced with stall because it has a more static goal and doesn't require as much in-game execution. Offense is always going to require more execution in-battle than full stall, and has more room for variation because its objectives are more fluid. As a result, I find it more demanding and interesting than stall.
