i had a nightmare last night
what if instead of gen 8, gamefreak does the dreaded "all pokemon regions" game every fan has thought at some point?

how much of a fucking disaster would it be?

i know the idea sounds good, but if you think it carefully, it would be a just a drag like kanto in gsc

not to mention the champion of kanto would be lvl 30 at best for the scale of 7 regions

honestly a game with all regions would get boring pretty quick because of how similar some regions are to one another I'd rather have one BIG region with optional areas and post game areas that aren't too much of a drag but aren't bland either. maybe in after game we could have more of those trainers that use competitive strategies so newcomers get a taste for competitive

Theyd have to put more effort into developing it than gamefreak would be willing to put in

but if they had an actual global spanning plot and you were travelling constantly between the regions as events in one give you access to an event blocking you in another (say you need to get a rage candybar for the safron guards instead of the tea) to break up the monotony of things

Easy, make gym leaders scale to your level. And have it Pokemon stadium style where it's a 3v3 and you have to choose your team.

Everything in the game has to scale not just bosses. But even then scaling can't work in pokemon due to the fact that pokemon don't gain power linearly.

That's a tall order. If the first region goes anywhere anove 20 you can run into trouble, but just 20 levels doesn't give much room to play with - and you have to ensure also that after a whole region's worth of gameplay the player hasn't leveled too far ahead of that.
The advantage of how levels scale is that you can stretch the last 20 levels for a very long period, maybe even 2 whole regions, but it would become monotonous and wild encounters would be uninteresting as a whole old region being level 80-ish is awkward and having low levels means they pose no threat.

Three, maybe four regions are feasible to do in a satisfying manner. Anything above that just doesn't scale well and would additionally make the game far too long.

it would feel empty, and even worse if it's an open world. it would be good if they added some proper quest, story and all to each region, but it's not the same as the main adventure, literally "just walk around and see how's everything and fight the gym leaders" like gsc kanto

Honestly an "all regions" game is such a simple concept at it's core that you really couldn't fuck it up, without many other expectations besides that.

Like even if all the regions we're gen2 Kanto tier that'd still meet the expectation.

Level-scaling would be a bitch. GSC is still criticized because of how low Johto and E4 levels were. Imagine if they had to fit another 5 regions in.
