ITT: Masuda opinions

What is your opinion on Masuda stepping down as game director of the Pokémon franchise?

I say good fucking riddance, he was like a tumor to the franchise at this point.

I believe in Ohmori. As previously stated, Masuda is the raging aspie who constantly screams muh children during interviews. Ohmori always looks like he doesn't want to be in the same room as him...

IDK, Ohmori's gen was arguably worst gen, with cancerous levels of forced story and linearity. Masuda was responsible for the arguable peak of Pokemon with gens 3 through 5, but his heart doesn't seem to be in it anymore.

Not really, he directed RS, DP, and BW. When people talk about the peak between Gens 3 through 5 they're talking about Emerald, Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, and Black 2/White 2. None of those games were directed by Masuda and often improved upon mistakes Masuda made in the originals.

Ohmori comes with his own problems though, his games are too linear and have too much narrative and handholding.

Fuck this perspective, seriously. Literally everything that matters about a gen is created in the base games. The region, the Pokemon, the new mechanics, practically the whole adventure. The revisions just fix a few things up to be a bit better.

Masuda was one of the programmers for Gen 1 and, well, I don't think I need to tell you what a mess that was.
