You have to consider what machanics the game has and why they were added.
Why give a 10% boost. why remove the evs limit (that you mostly don't care about during the story to be fair) and add a system that lets you boost every stat by fucking 200?
The answer is obviously to make the game easier, actually not just easier but literally dumber.
Someone that learns how to play the game could make things easier before by using items and abilities (an exemple is using a focus sash in the infamus ultra necrozma fight) but what did they do? They removed something that requires you to think (items, abilities, ev limit so you have to choose the stats to boost) and addes something that requires you only to grind (stat boost candy).
And how you grind again? Yes you catch pokémon, you do the same and movements over and over 200*5 times (hopefully a little less if stronger pokémon give more that one candy) for every pokémon you want to boost just in case you are so dumb that you can't win the battle or you want to have an advantage when playing with friends, since it's the only kind of online battle you can do.
I'm glad this game as no competitive because the way things are designed are not fit for that kind of game.
