I get catching a certain amount to unlock round two of the Elite 4 (FRLG) since that's an optional post game challenge, but doing it it the middle of the game's main story seems like an utterly pointless blockade that kills the pacing. The originals had catching requirements for some optional items but nothing mandatory. Guess it shouldn't come as a surprise ever since the grass/water requirement reveal for Brock's gym.

You need to have a type that is supereffective again rock (i.e. grass or water; fighting, steel, and ground too technically, but you’re not gonna have one that early) to gain entry into brock’s gym. It’s this way for every gym. To really drive home how much this is a babby version of an already kid-friendly game.

You don’t have to have a super effective Pokémon at each gym that’s the requirement for Brock’s. Each gym has a different requirement. Misty’s requires you to have a level 15 Pokémon etc.

Yeah, this pretty much defeats the point of even having a Nuzlocke. It's like people who use the DexNav to get exactly the Pokemon they want as their first encounter in ORAS, you're missing the whole randomness aspect which is a decent amount of the added challenge in a Nuzlocke to begin with.

Mainline games are confirmed for late 2019 though there's nothing to bitch about at this point, it's a literal shitty minigame for kids. The second it was announced I knew it was shit and got over it, because it isn't for the main audience.

Nuzlocke in general wouldn't work in a game where spawns in the overworld are visible. I mean, you could say "which Pokemon is closest when you walk in the route". Then again, that never mattered to most people anyway, given the sheer amount of people who cheese them with fixed encounters (especially Audino in gen 5).
