You have it backwards. They were fantastic remakes. Remade and improved on everything that ruby and sapphire were. They are better than the original. However they're not good games because emerald is still leagues better. We needed something like hgss where they were technically crystal remakes. Oras are great remakes. Just not great games. Emerald is still better.

I think they were good games that got bogged down by poor decisions, mostly the removal of the frontier.
DexNav is bar none the best feature added to the lower screen. It gave people access to knowing exactly what they can catch on any given route, and it actually encouraged people to 'catch em all' instead of looking at a wiki. Also made shiny hunting a little more bearable.
Soaring and Secret Bases made the entire region feel more alive. With other games I'd just visit one or two places max after beating it because all the useful content was locked to those few places. Secret Bases gave me a reason to explore, and soaring let me see the region as a whole instead of just teleporting everywhere.

It's an absolute tragedy that these features got locked behind these games because they'll easily bump any future Pokemon game a few points.

Exactly. Remakes should make the original games obsolete because of how much better they are. I still want to go back and play Emerald instead of ORAS sometimes.

On the other hand, I never have the urge to play R/B because FR/LG scratches that itch perfectly. Same with HG/SS and G/S.

There was way more care put into the 3ds games than in the ds ones though. The ds ones were (comparatively speaking) rushed, careless, repetitice, unoriginal and while good (as every pokemon game was good) they're the franchise's weakest point quality wise.
Omega Ruby would be a way inferior game if it was made with the same unoriginality that was around in 2010 and if you're not a 15 years old that had (((muh childhood))) in the late 00s, you'll agree.

That's incorrect. Consensus is pretty much set on Emerald, Platinum, HGSS and BW2.
They're probably the best 3DS games though. It would have easily been Sun and Moon if there wasn't so much unskippable shit.
