What exactly makes Granbull a 'Fairy' type, again?

I mean it's literally just a dog. Normal type made a hell of a lot more sense than this Fairy nonsense.

Don't tell me they just arbitrarily made certain Pkmn Fairy type to fit this non-sense type into the series??

It has fire properties though, same as Granbull. Granbull is just a specific dog that happens to be a fairy, because fairy folklore is weird and it's the same reason stuff like Azumarill or Xerneas are fairies. People assume Cu Sith.

It's a Pokemon. It is technically magical by definition. Even though they don't like to use the M word, we all know it's true.

Plus, is this REALLY that big a deal? The term "Fairy" can cover enough things to be justifiable. "Light" is way too restrictive in "cutesy and pure" things. Fairy can cover the more "monstery" stuff too, like bugbears and yokai and goblins.

In the case of Granbull specifically, they really probably just did it cause it's apparently "the Fairy Pokemon", but honestly it could fit that "monster fairy" category well enough. It's really not that much of a problem, dude.

I'm not gonna touch the competitive aspect, though. I don't know enough about that to form much of an opinion.

It literally doesn't make any sense for it not to be normal type. I could maybe buy Normal/Fairy but not pure Fairy that's some horse shit and yet another travesty from modern Gamefreak.

A lot of people take Fairy type too literally. Fairy really just means light-hearted stuff, much like how Dark type is dark in the figurative sense rather than literally.
Granbull's dex entry mentions that it's actually very timid and not as aggressive as it looks, and I suppose for Game Freak that's good enough of a reason.

Fairy refers to a large amount of mythical, magical beings in Europe, especially in Ireland. Beings that include that Cu Sith (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%B9_S%C3%ACth), and pic related.
There's a lot more to fairies than just "little people with wings".

Normal/Anything is a nebulous concept to begin with. How do you figure? The difference between Normal/Fairy and Fairy's defenses is ghost immunity vs fighting resistance. Also Normal STAB isn't resisted by Fire and Poison-type targets.

Since it has access to the Earthquake TM, it already covers those + Steel types. The lack of Normal STAB isn't that big of a loss

Something like that, it's pretty clear Fairy type was poorly implemented into Pokemon, both typing and what defines the type. Some Pokemon who definitely make sense as Fairy types seem to have slipped under the radar.
But Granbull is essentially the "Fairy Pokemon", it doesn't really need any other reason to be the type. The whole Cu Sith thing seems like reaching tbqh, just say it's a fairy because it's called one and leave it at that.
