Not only the Sinnoh poster is about the championship (which automatically makes it the most important one), it also gets the most focus of them all. And the dialogue makes it pretty clear that's the championship he tried to enter (and most likely failed). Why Sinnoh of all places? It isn't harder than other leagues. It isn't more special either. The most logical answer is because he lives there or very close to there. It's not hard.
