This series makes more money then fucking Star Wars and the Marvel, more than Batman. It's the number one highest grossing franchise ever created. It was never niche and it was never hardcore. It's a game for 6 year olds and while there's more to it like the Frontier (Which isn't even a fucking thing anymore.) doesn't change the fact that the game's core market is casual gamers and kids. A good chunk of those features were also standard at the time of their release. A hard area or obstacle to beat after completing the core game was once the fucking norm Pokemon wasn't hard core for doing it it was just following the norms.
