The difference is that Hau had a tan/brown skin from the beginning. The Detective Pikachu protag is black for no reason, and I honestly don't mind that much. I just hope he got the job for good acting and not some executive pushing an agenda.

1. They are changing how he looks for no reason. Personally I don't even like the new Emilia being blonde, she had auburn hair in the games.
2. Rumor has it the movie is supposed to tie into the games and if the main character is literally a different race then it's kinda hard to say "these two are the sam person"

Buddy. The only characters that have came close to being black pokemon characters are Iris, Hapu, Olivia, and Kiawe. And literally no one here has had a problem with that. I'm not saying they are black, but they're close.

The OP is wrong. Hau is a native Hawaiian (Alolan).

A lot of us don't have a problem with that or any dark skinned characters in the games (I know I don't).

People are just annoyed because Tim Goodman was a white male in the game, but is portrayed by a POC in the film (This doesn't worry me, but I can see where people are coming from). I see this as pandering to the SJWs.

The thing that bothers me is the international cast, rather than a full British cast with one American or vice versa (ala Love Actually)
