It's not gonna happen for two reasons:

1. Lots of Pokemon have gimmicks in their designs that can't be conveyed in 2D sprites, only in 3D models or in the anime
2. Lots of newer Pokemon are designed with 3D in mind and don't work as 2D sprites

oh wow, it's every shitty indie game ever. Pretending to use pixel graphics 'because nostalgia and retro feel' when it's really just because hiring actual graphic designers, making or licensing software, and programming for something more powerful than a keurig is difficult.
Sprites were the result of limitations, and deserve to stay dead.

GameFreak not being experienced with 3D is the problem though.

Gale of Darkness reused Stadium models for Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon (which is why they looked like absolute shit next to Gen 3 Pokemon) and the Gen 3 Pokemon models are graphically inferior to the ones being used now.

It doesn't really matter when you're actually playing since it's not what you're focusing on anyway. And even then you can turn the majority of the effects off, you'd know this if you played the game though instead of pissing and whining about things you don't know anything about.

They changed it in the final product though because a lot of people complained about it. It was one of the things they even specifically mentioned in the follow up video to the survey they did after the demo.
