The game has a lot of features catered towards toddlers, and cut a lot of features that have become standard since Gen 3, like abilities and finding non-native Pokémon during the postgame.

As a fellow doubter about the game I can safely say it has the following turn-downs: No abilities, you can double on one opponent to make it even easier, no wild battles, several poor quality animations, only the original 151 with their Alolan counterparts + Meltan and Melmetal.
