Sun and Moon were great games actually, almost the best in the series arguably.

Nah man, I disagreed with OP. Don’t know how you got samefagging out of that, I’m very concerned for you.
And I gotta say, I really like many gen 7 designs and ideas implemented such as trials instead of gyms. But even then I kinda just forgot about what I played after I put it down. It was fun, but shirt-lasting fun for me.

I really liked Sun and Moon's emphasis on the Pokemon and their environment. Every Pokemon felt like it belonged in the region. There weren't any cases of Pokemon like Solosis that feel like they were just tossed into some random grass for the sake of having another psychic type. I really look forward to seeing what Ohmori does now that he's proven himself and has more creative freedom.

The gen 7 models had to work as both an overworld and in-battle model, so it had to come up with a design that was halfway between them. The full-size model could be more complex because it only appears on-screen for two seconds in the entire game. They didn't have to worry about things like how they'd look from the overhead camera view.

In this case, it's less about optimization and more about the 3DS screen being so damn small. Even Yo-Kai Watch, which /vp/ loves to bitch about having a better overworld than Pokemon, uses very short overworld character models. When characters are taller, the screen has to be zoomed out further.
