They literally took a character named after a color and decided to name him a different color, and had years to fix it so that people didn’t wonder why greens room mat is green or why his clothes were green and not blue.

Is there a reason why there was no more "serious" spinoff of the pokemon games that was a adaption and/or inspired by the manga? Beside Nintendo/Gamefreak retardness? I mean they have all kind of spinoffs and shit with pokemon, why not something like that?
Would be fucking dope if there would be a good pokemon arpg where trainer and pokemon are more involved while fighting and with their surroundings

He was originally named "Shigiru" and Red was named "Satoshi".
They fucked it up when they renamed them to Red and Green/Blue in Gen2.

it's certainly messed up.

Red and Blue only works if Red has Charmander and Blue has Squirtle but since this isn't canon anymore, Red and Green having a starter opposite of their namesakes makes more sense and is more interesting.

Honestly sometimes a person just has to step up and want to make a game like that. I'd love a DMC/Bayonetta-esque game based on the manga built around only Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow and their teams with sequels that adapt the other arcs over time. I'm sure it'd do really well too but until someone goes to Gamefreak and says they want to make a game like that with a proper plan and dev experience it's just not going to get made. Right now there's not really a need for it to make money.

Pretty sure they picked green for the rival because red is the hero color in Japan and Pokemon Green was the only other game at the time.
Also, Bulbasaur feels like the trusty first car kind of pokemon so it went to Red. It's not flashy or uncommon but it's the informed choice.
Meanwhile, Charmander is the choice for those who want a challenge and are already proficient at training, like using Ember against Onyx despite of the type disadvantage because anything with a decent Special and STAB is going to cut through Onyx's laughable Special.
