I liked the pokemon and characters designs, and Totems are a neat idea. The games would’ve been fine if there was a good battle facility and the region design wasn’t trash

USUM definitely hit a new low point, at least LGPE has a gimmick GO compatibility. USUM were just straight-up false advertising. SM was fun though, if anything, and if I had to choose something good I guess SM's story wasn't that bad. It's only real flaw was having a weak connection to the player's interests. Of course USUM fucked it all up and doesn't count for shit.

SM had a legit good story and the characters in the story were great and memorable. Great legendaries, good designs and decent difficulty. GF fucked up on some notable things but it was better than anything in Gen VI.

USUM was a step down, but had better gameplay, move tutors were a godsend and Ultra Necrozma actually fit the title of legendary. Postgame was fun if short.

There are many legit criticisms of Gen VII but when the biggest recurring complaints are starterwars, I think GF did ok.

Yes it was. Most of it was just exposition of stuff that wasn't even particularly relevant. Then it is just Lillie''s family issues, which were pretty stupid so if you didn't get into that straight away you'll be bored as fuck. But even if you did the story isn't told particularly well, the writing quality is below the standards of most JRPGs which is a very low bar. The pacing is horrible, in large part cause the game is run to cutscene node, characters talk before running off again, then you run after then so at the next cutscene node they explain a bit more.

It was a poor attempt to copy what Yokai Watch was doing. SM and LGPE show that current GF have no ideas of their own, they'll just copy trends and hope the series huge size just lets them ride it out.

I liked the new mons and totems were a cool idea. But it was held down by too many cutscenes and linearity which completely killed the replay value. Releasing a "third version" as a pair advertised as having "ultra changes" was a very greedy move too. Overall fine games, still better than gen 6

It honestly makes me angry. Because a Hawaii region could have been far better realized on the Switch. Alola is a nice region on paper and in artwork and such. I love the vibrant feel of it, and I love the Pokemon designs for the most part. But I feel that it gets dragged down by the 3DS and the story(RIRRIE). Cutscenes are also a downer. Makes replaying the games a chore. I can replay games in Gen 1-5 easily. Gen 6 is iffy, but I can do it if I let a large amount of time pass between play sessions. Gen 7 just makes me tired when I think of replaying it.

Regional variants are such an incredible idea i'm wondering why they took so long to think of it. These should be standard for every game forever.

Pelago lets you passively grind which I like. Assuming you can't just get rid of the grind entirely.

Characters are sort of like characters instead of experience buckets that talk sometimes

While I appreciate that this game tried to have an actual plot, they told it in the ABSOLUTE WORST WAY POSSIBLE. The pacing of these games are really fucked up even if I acknowledge that they tried.

Despite all the hate Alola was a breath of fresh air, i felt like if i was a little kid playing pokemon silver again, pretty good region and one of my favorites overall. That said, it still has its mistakes, it still its easy in comparison to gen 4 and formers, Alola lacks optional dungeons to explore, Rotomdex is very annoying even if he has his moments and the lack of National Dex is a sin of its own. Ultraspace and the ultrabeasts is something that was poorly worked with, but hopefully they will keep expanding on it in the next generations
