A Pokemon contest game isn't exactly a bad idea if they work like in the anime with move combos and a big gym challenge type of thing but I'd rather having an octopath traveler experience with also the other trainer classes from the Pokemon world like ace trainers, rangers, care keepers, dragon/beast tamers and professors they don't even have to be crossinf paths stories, just select your class and live each story.

Turn it into a Tripokalon do the trainer can be included. Outfits and the type of mon you use for the performance give bonuses like not losing a lot of score if you fuck up.. In fact turn it into a rhythm game, and you can actually watch tour trainer and mon perform onstage and the models and audience react to how well you are performing.
