Now I actually like Samurott, but even I think it's a shame they struck gold with past and future water starters but had "artists block" when designing Oshawott's final evo.

Yeah, but I just don't like to see Marvel tier designs in a fucking Pokemon game, look at abominations such as the Ultra Beasts.

I'm in no way a fan of cute Pokemon, but I don't like fucked up designs like that either.

And as much as you say not to count the ice creams, why should I ignore them?

I like Golurk and Trevenant though, maybe he should stick to designing only Ghost types in the future.

Dragonair looks miles better than dragonite does, even though i still like dragonite more.

I love Samurott. I don't care if it looks awkward to everyone else, or that it went from bipedal to quadruped for its final evo. Maybe the concept of making it a mount/samurai hybrid didn't pay off, but I still like it. Still wish it had been water/fighting though. My only main criticism.

Agreed. I just started playing the Gen 5 hacks by Drayano(sp?), and him giving the Oshawott line the fighting type starting with Dewott is a major improvement.

Sugimori said on Twitter around 2012 or so that Atsuko did all the Eevee line, but years later in 2016 Atsuko responded to someone on Twitter asking her about Eevee saying that she only did Vaporeon and later gens, and that the rest of the Gen I line was Fujiwara.

Only things I really hate about his designs are Vanillite having a perfectly cup-like body, Vanilluxe's straw, and Vullaby's skull diaper. Also Poipole is good but feels more like another Mythical than an Ultra Beast. Just kinda kills the whole vibe the other UB designs are going for, although I guess it was intentionally made to be the more marketable/mech-able of the bunch.

It's honestly weird how much some of these vary in quality. I guess I always assumed all the great designs were drawn by the famous artists, while every forgettable Pokemon were designed by some intern. But no, all these guys have amazing concepts and complete stinkers. Mind blown.

Technically he doesn't only do the official art though. He also does the direction meaning he may not have created it wholesale, everything looks like what it does because of him since it all goes through his approval.

Saying it's outright his designs is wrong but ultimately it's him you have to thank or hate if you like or dislike any of them because he's the reason they look the way they do in the end.

Based on this list, Atsuko Nishida, Hiroshi Ariga and Yusuke Ohmura are the designers with the best track records. The rest either have too few Pokemon under their name to be truly noteworthy, or are to hit and miss.
