This is GameFreak we're talking about.
The same GameFreak who managed to make Gen 7's battles load, unload and reload all the assets 9 times in a row which is why there's such a painful loadtime.
The same GameFreak who slapped countless Lillie Models on basically every map in Alola for every single event when they've had the code for global actors like Ride Pokemon so they could just use a single Lillie Model for every single instance.
The same GameFreak who managed to forget to code in a "is the player, or an NPC using an item?" check for LGPE despite reusing Gen 6's Engine, thus meaning no matter who uses an item, it will ALWAYS say "You used the [Item]." simply because they were so far up their own asses making the game as easy as possible that they forgot that the ONE NPC who uses Items, Champion Trace, existed.
I'm pretty fucking sure it's safe to say that Following Pokemon won't return for another good 10-15 years even though they're sitting on all these animations and now have coding for it as of LGPE.
