Why do so many normies seem to forget FR/LG existed? As a 21 year old, those were my first pokemon games growing up.

Actually, Crystal, the anime dropping the GS Ball Plot in exchange for another goddamned movie leading to uninspired filler hell for most of Johto, and natural fad decay were responsible for ending PokeMania.
RS was proof that Pokemon was still able to thrive after the end of PokeMania and went above Masuda's expectations.

2002-2006 was the period Nintendo/Pokemon was uncool, normies started noticing again with Wii/DS/Gen 4 but was still somewhat uncool all the way up until XY on 3DS where a lot of college students started playing again, Pokemon Go hit in 2016 and now Pokemon is just like any other nerd thing like capeshit.

RS kept the franchise afloat after losing its fad status in Gen 2. Masuda even blogged about how he nearly hospitalized himself (or actually did, can't remember) working on RS to make sure people wouldn't give up on Pokemon - out of worry seeing Pokemon dying down around him.

Nigga I'm 23 and preordered FireRed but they were nowhere near my first Pokemon games.
They were also pretty well received among my friends at the time because they were so carefully crafted, but to me it was boring because I had spent so much time in Red and Yellow versions that I wanted more new things like Hoenn and Orre.

Wrong. RS were shitty games, yes (despite introducing a lot of good mechanics), but they weren't responsible for the death of PokeMania. It was normies simply getting older and less interested/bored of the series.

That is a deterent to not even bother keep playing Pokemon. You can screech all you want about it being pieces of data but when your stuff you've worked on and played for years gets suddenly invalidated, you've got every right to not even bother with it again. That argument still holds truth since Gamefreak still hasn't cut off compatability since RS and even is letting Lets Go get Bank working with so the normies can actually look forward to future titles if they have an attention span.

That doesn't change the fact Crystal is still one of the lowest selling titles of all.
It changed fuck-all beyond the Suicune Story, Animated Sprites, worse Pokemon distribution and the Odd Egg.

They kept transferring alive because of the autistic screeching. Of course it's in spirit with the series as well but I doubt anyone was expecting such backlash.
Tons of people I know never even used the Time Capsule in GSC, to me it was amazing that it even existed so I certainly wasn't expecting to be able to it again onto an entirely different system.

You're still missing the point in context.
We go from RGB taking the world by storm, to Yellow tying in with the anime and putting a new spin on how you play through Kanto, to GS being fantastic sequels, to Crystal being the same fucking game with extremely minor differences when people were expecting another Yellow-like game.
After RS restored Masuda's faith in Pokemon's ability to thrive even after PokeMania, sales of upper versions and remakes didn't mean as much as a generation's debut titles unless you were gathering their combined totals.

I'll argue that pokemania dwindled far before Crystal was released. I don't have a proper perspective, though, since I only remember the response to the anime at the time, and that by the time the 3rd gen was being advertised, one could tell things were not the same.

What’s bad about crystal’s distrobution? It’s the one I started on. Only thing I missed out on seems to be ampharos, but I ended up boxing flaaffy in the newer games before it evolved anyway because the change bothered me.

Well here's my story on this:

I'm also 21 and only a couple friends and I played both Tajiri generations also I remember older kids trading and battling at lunch in the cafeteria when GSC came out because they came out just a year after Yellow in Europe. When gen 3 and FRLG released everyone played them, tcg and tazos were bigger than ever and you could talk about pokemon with anyone, in the end I was seen as the Serebii of my grade and gave the latest news from the Diamond and Pearl games, showing printed corocoro leaks and stuff like that beforehand. Those hit pretty hard with everyone getting a ds with nintendogs and one of the versions but of course we were almost in middle School by the time HGSS came and so everyone acted like big boys/girls. Ironic that by how many people said they didn't give a fuck about the gen 2 remakes they are praised now as the best games in the franchise.

Guess I phrased that poorly. The only difference between crystal and gs that i know off the top of my head is ampharos, but I meant that the evolution was too jarring (species change) that I ended up boxing it anyway.
