I'd value exploration above all if the games encouraged it, the problem is that they don't.

Collecting and battling should be designed around the idea of exploring around. Instead we get a linear hallway with predetermined battles that changes background until you become champion.

Battling and exploring, aka the reasons I'm not buying this game. I don't want to battle in a shitty meta that doesn't even have abilities and I don't want to visit Kanto for the fifth time.

It was but like always gamefreak never went beyond the basic "oh there's a treasure chest off the beaten path lets go down and take a look. Alright a tm/potion/vitamin! Well nothing better to do down here I guess I should go back down the main path." that every RPG does.

There's a few spots in the first two gens that did have some exploration but after that it basically became a hallway (with a few exceptions like the regi quest).

Also most item chests in Pokemon suck only Colosseum and Gale of Darkness (big surprise there) ever had good chests.
