There was never any concrete evidence that Arceus created the universe. Any retard with a brain would realize the pokedex entries describing him doing such were impossible for any observer to have witnessed in person. You expect me to believe they were their to witness Arceus creating the universe? The problem is that the mainline games directly confirm the power of the creation trio by making their ability to destroy and recreate the universe the central plot point of Gen 4. Then HGSS straight up confirms that Arceus can birth a Dialga/Palkia/Giratina out of nothingness.

The Sinnoh creation myth (Arceus -> Dialga/Palkia -> Universe) makes sense because we know that all the Pokemon involved actually have the godlike powers ascribed to them.
