I have almost no reason to switch out of Pikachu. The Pokemon I want in my party level up without having to use them, which makes it pointless to have in my party because I barely ever use them. Grinding has become a cakewalk, I got a Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur without ever having to use them in battle, and Pikachu's moveset is so wide right now (Thunderbolt, Dig, Floaty Fall, Brick Break while in Celadon) that I can handle pretty much 99% of threats.
It's almost a bummer that I have zero incentive to switch out of using Pikachu because the whole appealing point of Pokemon was crafting your team that you worked with all the way to the Elite Four.
The most exciting shit in the game is seeing the Pokemon models in the overworld for the first time, getting new outfits and the cute Pikachu animations.
