Like how we have a type boosting item for each type, a dummied out gem for each type, a plate for each type that boosts the same amount as the type boosting item, a Z-Crystal for each type and a memory for each type that does literally nothing except on Silvally. Also the drives and stuff on top of that.
Sometimes it's just intrinsically bad design that they're forced to bring to the next games for consistency reasons.
