Idk, man. Japs bought the shit out of GoW and they are sure as hell buying the shit out of RDR2. You might say that RDR2 was already almost a week old by the time it reached november but it's still the biggest retail game in last 2 years and Let's Go has to compete with it while being split into two titles.

Given all the mechanics changes, all this pandering to GO players and the fact this was made for Switch instead of 3DS I guess they expect to sell as well as Sun & Moon.
A Pokémon game is still a Pokémon game and it will obviously sell more than most games on branding alone, but can you expect this to last? Not only this game has received this much backlash from Westeners and Japanese alike, but will compete against Smash when it's released in a couple of weeks; and I expect many core players to wait to buy Smash as the game of choice for this season instead of LGPE.
I don't think they will be too happy at Game Freak after all.
However, will it translate into a quality increase for Gen 8? I doubt so.

They always have development cycles this short and the games usually send pretty well. ORAS sold much more and you can also say that was a rushed as fuck game which recycled pretty much every asset from X/Y and tried to capitalize from nostalgia as well.

honestly, remakes made sense back in the day when you needed link cables to transfer pokemon, but now that the pokemon bank exists, there is literally no reason why we need a remake every generation anymore.
if they absolutely must rehash things from the past, i'd much rather see them revisit regions from the spinoffs, like orre, almia, and oblivia, and use those as the setting for mainline-style games.

The BW starters weren’t widely accepted and there was a big stink about that hence this board, but the only time this board was overly negative was after the release of ORAS. XY was mediocre as fuck and had its flaws, but it was the first 3D game and we were still optimistic and the PSS was great for trade threads and whatnot, there was a shitload of activity and actual discussion on /vp/ at that time. Then ORAS came out and people really started bitching, but it still wasn’t THAT bad, there was just not a lot of hype, not nearly enough for GEN 3 CONFIRMED because it was just watered down Emerald. And fucking GO hit the scene and the quality of posts around here fucking plummeted. However leak season saved /vp/ for a minute when SM came out, but then the starter final form leaks were revealed, and we saw the gameplay... then it came out, and it’s just been toxic around here ever since. SM was just so bad. Then there was a minimal resurgence for USM, but we quickly learned that it was negligibly different from SM, and the board fell into absolute despair, pining for the next gen to come out already even though we’re barely in mid gen at this point. Then LGPE was announced and more and more of it was revealed... and the rest is history. Th-thanks Game Freak.

The capture system borrowed from GO is very interesting because they utilize size and better stat checking/EV’s,. as opposed to running around in a fucking circle to constantly hatch eggs that have the exact nature/stat I want or fighting Pokémon to raise the certain EV’s. That’s fucking retarded. This is just the few things that this game improved on.

This is why it makes no sense for LGPE to exist as a bridge between Go/casuals and actual seasoned players. Those casuals are gonna drop off once the Pokefad dies down yet again (remember, 90s nostalgia pandering is currently big right now, but soon it will change to nostalgia for the 00s), and how in the hell does GF expect them to jump into Gen 8 from LGPE, when all the removed elements (breeding, abilities, held items, etc.) return on top of a bunch of new monsters? You have to think about how Game Freak Currently works. Yokai Watch gets big, so a lot of SM stuff copies YW. Even the anime has taken on a sillier tone to fit in that nice better. Go caused a bump in SM sales, while being a phenomenon in general. So of cause they go fuck lets jump on that trend.

GF no longer take strides and creates. They just copy what they see doing well. I could see Gen 8 being well received cause of the open world fad right now, copy that and they'd get lots of praise. Even though it would like be a pretty lazy copy.

Technically that's not a problem with the competitive scene being small, it's a problem with keeping people actually playing.

People don't tend to watch content for games they aren't playing. The lack of content in the games to keep non-competitive players playing is directly correlated with the lack of giving a fuck about others doing so.

Them intentionally releasing yearly tripe with no content to keep people coming back and massively damaged even re-playing what is there with unskippable cutscenes is what's killing everything about the series.

Pandering to people who don't play and probably won't buy is the least of their worries when they're not pandering to people who DO play at the same time.

Pokemon in the overworld is so much better then rng.

The capturing is the gayest shit ever, the character and pokemon models are absolute trash, it's doesn't feel like a next gen pokemon game.

Final Fantasy is a big flop now because Square Enix are incompetent and caused their games to turn into unwieldly behemoths of assets that take 5+ years to develop.

Pokemon is developed quickly, it allows them to rapidly adapt to the changing market with ease. That's how they stay on top, it wouldn't matter if one market drops off because when it does they'll be able to make a game to account for it 1 year later.

It is a scam but people are not meant to complain about that? We are just meant to watch them release kanto again with less content, bad frame rate in handheld, no pro controller support, even easier difficulty, reducing wild encounters to an RNG mini game where even a excellent fails multiple times in a row, a general removal of player choice in part by Gym requirements and many benefits that the series in part implemented to fix gen 1 problems.

But lets say all of that sounds fine to you, why should the biggest multi media franchise get away with releasing a mediocre scam? They have the resources to pump the game full and would still make a profit.

Citation needed my dude. Maybe you're too young to remember what things were like during gen V, but they were never 'hated'. Opinions were a little divided because BW was somewhat like a reboot of gen I but you're exaggerating severely.

I liked BW when they came out. Deny it or call me a hipster all you like, doesn't make you right. I never even said it was the 'holy grail', those are words you put in my mouth, just that XY was much worse and the beginning of the downhill trend.

BW 1&2 were the least played games for me. I spent a lot more time on gen 1-4. 5 was just playing it through and then let it collect dust. then again spend more time on 6 since it had trainer outfits to unlock and you could play with your pokemon and it was in general more fun to play. Gen 7 was also a lot of time spent on SM never really bothered with USUM to much because it was kinda the same story to a certain point. Meanwhile pokemon lets go is again fun. I like being able to catch without stupid useless encounters of mons i dont want. I can go for what i need and ride on some cool pokemon. Like it feels much more logical to travel on your pokemon as a trainer than use some stupid bike coupon that is gated behind talking to some npc without earning it.
