Playing it. Got to fuschia city, and transfered my Alolan Vulpix.

Game is pretty good. 9/10, but obviously doesn't compare to RBY and GSC, since the rivals were better and Blue was a jackass.

Wasn't a big fan of them adding in Trace as the Blue replacement. He seems like the average nice guy like Hau, which kind of irks me. As much as I like how the direction of the series is going with the Kanto pandering, this is the one thing about Masuda's taste that I really don't like. This was one of the main reasons USUM/SM and XY were low tier games, IMO.

Eh, solid 3/10.
The game is incredibly simple, new stat system makes it easy to break while at the same time tedious. It also can't maintain a framerate properly.

It's fine? There's nothing really terrible about it, it's just boring and lazy. The GO shit is completely superfluous and doesn't enhance the game at all. Meanwhile there are a lot of interesting and genuinely fun mechanics and features that I'm really hopeful get carried over into the next games. Wild Pokemon appearing in the overworld, Secret Techniques, PC Box in your bag, being able to nickname Pokemon whenever you want, following/riding Pokemon, etc. The artstyle is shit but the game is very easy on the eyes. The actual cutscenes are also quite nice, definitely a step up from the usual crap.

These games aren't impressive at all but they make me optimistic for whatever is coming in a year. With the necessary time and money and the proper application of some of the features showcased here the next games could be really cool.

My number one complaint so far is that I've been playing Co-op this whole damn time and the only double battles in the game are with Jessie and James and the co-op partner cannot participate in them for some reason.
Other than that I'm not happy about the fishing rod being removed either and having to wait for basically any good water types, other than Wartortle, until I get surf.

But those are my only complaints, I actually really like the wild pokemon and catching system a lot more than I thought I would.

Game Freak are beyond retarded, to the point that it seems they go out of their way to make the games run like shit.
Apparently in SM for example, despite most locations using the same grass texture, instead of all of them drawing from one copy of said texture they each have an individual and identical duplicate associated with them. For no reason.

The QoL features like box anywhere, naming anywhere, overworld battles (and shinies sparkle on the overworld too), and Secret Techniques are all great and really should stay. I'm enjoying seeing pokemon on the overworld far more than I expected and I feel it would be a loss if gen 8 doesn't have them.
Go-style catching I could probably give or take but it would have to be after a battle, like how the game currently handles static encounters.
Playing pokemon in a proper resolution on the big screen is an extremely overdue change. Cutscenes and battles actually look good when you're not squinting at them on a piddling little 400x240 display, though there were frame drops in a few locations like Pokemon Road. Really not as many as people seem to meme about here though.

Overall its a solid entry. It's no Emerald or Platinum but it's not disappointing by any stretch.

Honestly that seems like it would increase performance but at the cost of increased space requirements.
Having an area load just the specific textures needed for that area (even if many of them are duplicates) in order to avoid loading from some kind of global pool could feasibly reduce load times and RAM requirements.
You don't have to perform lookups for each object in the global pool since you can just point to an entire area pool and load that all at once and it's guaranteed to have exactly what you need and nothing that you don't.
I suppose the argument would be whether having some textures/models always be in memory and swapping out around the edges is faster than only loading what you need but swapping all of it out at once. Perhaps the bulk operation to wipe/write memory is faster than doing it selectively?

Sure they could just be dumb, who knows.

Bought it at midnight on Thursday and have been hooked all weekend. I was on the fence before it came out but it's turned out to be really good. I still think the pokeball plus is a rip off and pay-walling Mew is a shit business practice.

I'm happy with the game. I'm hoping they keep the things I love for future games. I'm also hoping we get Let's Go to Johto soon.

chain catching is great, as is being rewarded for it through power ups, increased shiny chance, and more frequent rare pokemon spawns
I could take or leave the new method of catching pokemon, but if it stays they need to significantly tone down how much exp you get from doing it. It's difficult to avoid accumulating exp too fast and being massively overleveled compared to all nearby trainers.
Maybe also change the co-op so the 2nd player can use pokemon from their save file and make progress instead of being some incorporeal being who barely interacts within the world.

Overall I think it's a fun, albeit easy, inoffensive addition to the series. 6.5/10 may play through again.

It's better than expected.

Fun, chill, easy to get good mon, easy to just enjoy online, catching is fun and different and sort of scale with chain and master trainer at the end.
You actually want to catch everything, filling your dex is more logical, and you are supposed to shuffle your team a lot.

The QoL makes the whole thing more enjoyable, seeing pokemon in the overworld should never leave.

I am geniunely surprised, and hope for more generation like this,, with more competitive features mostly and more things to do in game.

The baddy bad is mostly the controls, and barebone online features.
This game scream for more content to be used and exploited.
