He didn't want to erase Red and Blue, but he wanted to give kids today their own versions of those characters so he decided to make a new set and decided to put Blue and Red in a recurring role for a way for kids and parents to connect. This would have been fine had LGPE featured a new adventure set in Kanto but instead it's just this awkward mix of remake and sequel. Like yeah Red might still exist in this game but he's not Champion, he's not a dex holder, and you live in his house and look almost exactly like him. It's so stupid and feels like a copout.
