As I said earlier today, the reason things like competitive are seen to be shrinking now is not because competitive isn't cared about, it's because the games have nothing to keep the casuals interested in watching any such content.
People don't tend to watch content for games they're not playing and the same applies in general across all of the stuff. The only reason they're making more money now is GO whales making YouTube content creating more GO whales in turn.
If it's not in your mind all the time because you're playing it, you're not buying other shit either. And this is why they're doubling down on the mobilefags but that's a route that won't hold forever.
Especially as you drive away the people who did have you on their mind all the time because you're providing them less and less content. Once you drive away the autists, you've failed, and there's no reason as it relates to Pokémon that you shouldn't be pandering to both. It's doable, they just need to put in the work which is, at this point, Masuda's kryptonite.
