We've been in the same cycle of yearly mainline titles since Platinum and yeah no spin-off has ever taken one of those spots. No spin-off has ever been revealed with "Don't be mad were doing a real game too" either. I think had Gamefreak just called it a spin off things would be a bit simpler but instead we had it referred to as a spin-off by one party and a mainline core title by another. It was a mess of an announcement.

Why are spin offs allowed to be bad? It is always the excuse when something like this happens, but why should any product even with a different demographic get away with being lower quality?

Like any first or second party nintendo game for the switch should work with the pro controller, the game even works with the joycons docked so motion controls aren't the issue. Even if the game was a spin off why would that be okay?

It's far bigger than you think, ever since HGSS it was something people always wanted back. But again as they said, it was pretty much the only thing. The other good one I could say is that there is a somewhat bigger diversity because of the overworld spawns on routes. So you could use different pokemon very early.
