Their names are like that because they are based on the names of the Gen 1 games:

Japan: Red & GREEN
Worldwide: Red & BLUE

Green/Blue/Leaf/etc. is using the name of the remaining Gen 1 game, which was the real "enhanced Version".

The fact that Blue Oak, Garry Oak (the inspiration for Gary Oak's name in the anime/Yellow Version) and Green Oak are all a thing in real life makes it acceptable to use any of those names.
