Not really sure how un/popular this is, but
I fucking hate pidgey clones and other carbon copies. Stuff like Swoobat I’m actually totally fine with because it’s at least a different typing than zubat, even if it serves the same purpose. Stuff like Hoenn majikarp, pidove, these just annoy me. The defense I usually see put forth is that the real world also has plenty of only very slightly different animals and that it’s there to make regions distinct.
But at least do shit like the talonflame line, those are pidgeyline clones that manage to be distinct and do their own thing. Even if it’s not a type difference and just a significant stat difference, like if the pidov line had REALLY high special defense or something. Just anything to set it apart from preexisting pokemon gameplay-wise. Cause if you’re just gonna give me pidgey with a new coat of paint, then do it like Arbok’s markings and give me slightly visually altered pidgey, and not just lazily inflate the number of ‘new’ pokemon in the game.
