Welp now that sales are in and with the poor reception from the fans, what do you think is gonna happen next with Pokemon?

They double down like Disney did with the TLJ and blame the fans or Nintendo starts screaming at them to do better?

I don't know what would be the next step for LGPE even if it was successful. LGPEtards clearly loathe this franchise and despise anything that is not gen 1 so just going down the line and making Let's Go versions of the following games in the franchise isn't really an option.

I can only imagine followups to LGPE would just further remove features and downgrade graphics while still taking place on KANTOOOOO until, with enough games, you are literally just buying RBY again for 60 bucks.

It isn't even hard to make a pokemon game that appeals to the vast majority of the fandom as each sub group doesn't really ask for a whole lot and is willing to work with gamefreak despite everything.

This. Gen 2 might have some pull, but also invalidates LGPE unless they cut Kanto. Gen 3 only just got a remake and won't pull in the Go crowd. Only way LG gets new games is if they fuck over the DP remakes.

Nintendo is extremely protective of the major IPs under its wing. They might be more reasonable and conservative with sales, but look at Metroid Other M. It's obvious after the huge fan backlash, they had to put Metroid away until they they knew what to do with it. It did okay in reviews and the sales were not like horrific. The game probably sold more than Bayonetta 2 did and yet Nintendo continues to happily fund and advertise Bayonetta games.

I don't know about that, the only "huge" backslash that this have had so far is the metacritic user score, and most people are convinced by now that it's only trolls review bombing the game. If there was such a huge fan backslash it would be a more common sight in various media outlets, and it's not like people are just keeping it to themselves since everyone is so vocal on how much they hate fallout 76 and battlefield.

GS Dark Dawn, while not a bad game, disappointed most fans with lame difficulty, long, pointless cutscenes etc.
We haven't had a Golden Sun game for nice then, and it was 8 years ago

I was just thinking how well this would work for Pokemon. Literally the more hands-off they go, the better the game will get. A Pokémon game with like no linear narrative would be awesome, since the major appeal to the game (unlike Zelda) is building and balancing your own team. Just make it so that opponents levels scale with how many badges you have, and load the game up with optional paths and towns and gyms. The game will only benefit from this, since the series has taught us, objectively, that putting more narration, handholding artificial roadblocks are pretty much always a bad thing in Pokemon. The only sense of progression that matters is building your team.

Apparently to gameFreak it is. It baffles me how they couldn't just leave in all the usual gameplay shit and just add in the Go mechanics in a simple way. Difficulty options wouldn't be hard either, it's a simple turn based RPG. It'd be as simple as ticking a box to change the AI and optimizing the moves/stats per mon.

Every time Masuda makes a comparison to Mobile Games and wanting it to be accessible, that's not for the sake of shitty westerners, that's for the sake of those demons.
They utterly despise games that require them to put effort without coddling, praising and holding their hand the entire way while showering them with instant gratification as often as possible, which is why so many of them are addicted to mobile gaming.
Masuda wouldn't be so damn worried about it if it were a minority, but mobile is in fact a vast majority for Japan's kids.
The Kanto Pandering we've been getting is just the result of GF refusing to do any research on anything outside of Japan and TPCi being lazy assholes who think random facebook normies who haven't actually interacted with the franchise in a positive light since childhood are still diehard Pokemon fans in general.

Even if you think they don't, GF and Nintendo obviously know that they cannot sell this game to the same demographic that buy traditional pokemon games, despite being the first pokemon games on switch it's painfully obvious that the game's budget was very small, guess why.

The mainstream loves Kanto though. The wet dream of the gaming community is a big open Kanto remake. Instead they got GO. LGPE is complete ass, but every review tries to sprinkle frosting on it by saying how great the nostalgia was. Right now the community is creaming itself over a big open world FF7 remake, another game heavy in nostalgia.

Normalfags bashed the shit out of BW because it didn't pander to them even though they haven't been considered customers for a long time and have dismissed Pokemon as a "loser baby game" since the second half of Gen 2.
GameFreak accordingly responds to this for some reason by making Gen 6 onward pander to Kanto, culminating with LGPE.
Now, people who've stuck with this franchise since day one and endured being a "loser baby who plays loser baby games" are becoming a minority to the people who once mocked them and lack any sense of irony or hypocrisy as they jump for joy at the mere THOUGHT of Kanto, Charizard and everything else Gen 1 while STILL having the fucking gall to continue mocking longtime fans for liking anything past Gen 2 despite being the ones prancing on into the franchise again after losing interest simply because "it's not popular anymore" and will do so again in the future, just like they did with GO after its first few months.
It just don't fucking add up.

Except it doesn't have to. If you did 8-2. but the game was more positively received it would end up around the 7 to 6 range. There would be considerably more 8s,7s, and 6s than the lower numbers. Instead if just doesn't have that many pulling it over that way

The only way to stop you from having a full highest level team within an hour is scaling the pokemon levels, but that comes with way too many problems.

I guess? If it was more in-depth I might agree but HMs still appear to just be discs with information on them that somehow gets transferred over to the Pokemon you use them on. It's not like you're personally passing on your own skills and knowledge. It's just a special TM.

It's a null point anyway since LGPE heavily implies Secret Techniques will be returning and that the player character themselves, rather than their Pokemon, will be the ones learning and using them.

The number of sales compared with the number of consoles sold. In Japan there are around 5.5 million Switches in use, so a game selling 650k~ gives you an attach rate of about 12%. Even BW's launch only had an attach rate of 8.5%, despite the sales being so high the number of DS's in use was even higher. The percentage of users that buy a game is just as important if not moreso than the actual number of sales, especially when you're comparing sales numbers of Switch games with DS/3DS games.

BW and SM did not sell better than the games released before. More users does not instantly mean more sales. Under your guys logic Splatoon 2 would have sold 5 times more if it was released now. I grew up during a time when the video game industry was still new ground, game types hadn't developed yet (FPS was called 'Doom clones') and gaming companies took risks with releases because they weren't sure how markets would respond, there wasn't an internet to exaggerate stuff doing well or poorly, and it was hard to manipulate the media into shilling your game because no one would cover video games.
I long for games of that pioneering quality. Baldur's Gate, Half-Life, FF VII, Earthbound, Red & Blue. Games push toward total immersion because that's literally the only frontier left that hasn't been fully explored. Once we get VR dive MMO's that shit will be rehashed too.
Pokemon has developed at a snail's pace, so it hasn't been as badly creeped like the rest of the gaming industry. So there's no excuse for GF who can print money, failing to understand and implement 20 years worth of research into making their games incrementally better. LGPE is the answer to a problem created by GF's own ineptitude.

Yeah, that era was a goldmine of great quality. Things we haven't seen before that we didn't even know could exist. That Stadium thread was a very nice reprieve as it shows examples of how a game company thinks about its players, HAL knew how to design a game and appeal to a player's needs to have fun for a long time including things like the Lab and the GBA Player or Minigames that were enjoyable with friends.

It doesn't actually matter how well Let's Go sells from this point, because it's already a success in that it accomplished what it needed to.

The game was made using a recycled setting, with a recycled storyline, recycled dialogue, recycled models, recycled animations, and two (2) new Pokémon. Compared to other Lame Freak Pokémon titles, little to no creative work was required for the project; they even cut corners by doing stuff like not including an Aerodactyl skeleton or a message specifying that the opposing trainer, not you, used an item. It's a ROMhack-level game made by a team of professionals working at an established studio.

In other words, it's likely a very low-budget game; there's no way it hasn't already turned a profit. Without diverting too many man-hours from the other project(s), it's raked in extra money, kept attention for the series fresh, reeled in those among the young child/geewunner/GO crowd who were willing to buy a Switch into the series, and even moved some Switch units, which is probably even boosting sales for Smash Bros. a bit.

The only thing that would make Let's Go a failure in this regard is if they end up alienating the audience enough for the Gen 8 games to flop, which does kind of scare me because that'd well and truly be the death of games being targeted towards us longtime fans.

Still no excuse to charge $60 a copy though

I can only think of a few minor things ORAS cut out, I also hate Hoenn but I like ORAS far better than Emerald because gen 3 was such garbage. garbage in 3D with less shit mechanics make hoenn at least tolerable. I don’t give a fuck about the battle frontier, it’s boring shit that literally no one bothered with, but they at least should’ve included it because they obviously were going to get eviscerated by veterans. However, since ORAS literally cut content, even if it’s content I didn’t give a shit about, I think Emerald is “objectively” better. I bought it and am enjoying it. But I understand the hate for it, and was actually impressed when people managed to review bomb several major sites. What's pathetic was people applauding the sites for blocking user reviews. So there are basically people who want to live in a world where your opinion can be silenced and nobody can really tell how well a game is performing. It was beautiful to watch this game gets its ass torn out. It reminded me that we're still in control, not the developers or review sites. But then they blocked it all out, and retards thought it was a good thing.
