ORAS somehow managed to make Hoenn worse. They added gates literally everywhere where as R/S/E had none, the overworld was completely seamless.
3D just makes the region feel more square, Hoenn’s main appeal was that it felt completely natural.

They should have skipped the 3DS remake of Hoenn and made ORAS as the debut of Pokémon on the Switch.

We shit on ORAS all the time though. They were completely unnecessary because outside the dexnav and soaring, they added nothing. You can still play RSE and not miss anything.

That said, at least they were a full rpg with content for $40, so someone without the old games can make a justified purchase. LGPE has taken a lot away, and there's zero reason to buy them over Virtual Console Yellow, unless you think $60 is worth a price only to dress Eevee/Pikachu up.

LGPE:
- Is far easier than any main-series game to this point (seriously even the master trainers are pushovers)
- Decreases teambuilding freedom by forcing you to keep one mon on your team at all times and removing all non-gen 1 mons
- Removes held items
- Buffs the shit out of bulky mons with the stat changes
- Removes z-moves
- Features the lamest, most dumbed-down dialogue ever in a pokemon game
- Removes wild battles almost entirely
- Completely fails to make use of the more powerful hardware besides upscaling, more polygons and cleaner shading (and still lags like a bitch)

ORAS may have been subpar, but it wasn't a massive recession for the series like LGPE is.

This is literally A GOOD THING if anything. No one like beating up level 3 Pidgeys and Rattatas for 2 EXP, and after the first 1/3 of the game you'll always have Repel active so what's the fucking point? Motion control bullshit aside the new wild encounter system is not only fresh but also better than the old tired system.

I actually like the concept of pokemon being visible in the overworld but I think that would work better if the areas were a lot larger.

In the older games it made going deep into places like victory rd or the whirl islands something ypu had to set up for.
Exp all was a mistake but removing it entirely was beyond the pale.

That's not even remotely difficult or requires strategy, just press attack one or two time and ta-dah it's at yellow or red health. At least in LGPE there's an actual challenge and more things to do in wild encounters, even with how shit the capture rate and motion controls are.
