>>37060349You know, back when the internet wasn't so widespread you could make the argument that event pokémon were genuinely mythical to some kids out there. But nowadays everybody knows about them, they're shoved into the anime and movies all the time. But even that doesn't matter, because the games get datamined the minute they release (or before they release, the S/M demo was a great idea Masuda) and they get plastered across the internet. There are a few things they need to do to salvage mythical pokémon:
>trim the fatThere should be one event pokémon per generation, maximum. There's just too many of them, they're not as special when there's dozens of them. Give the majority of them the Deoxys treatment, plenty of them suit being ordinary legendaries.
>embrace modern technologyDon't put event pokémon in the base game. Just add them into the game in an update. That way, you don't have to pretend that you're unveiling a "never before seen pokémon" when you announce the next movie and its shillmon. You can actually unveil a pokémon nobody's ever seen before.
>no more pokécenter handoutsWhat a fucking dull way to give out "mythical" pokémon. Some no-name store clerk handing it to you. If you don't want to put the effort in to create an in-game area like Unity Tower, you can still put it in a secluded house somewhere where an NPC will give it to you, along with a few small snippets of lore surrounding it.
