I used to always do that before I realized I should get Flash TM to properly pass the cave.
I thought the game designed to make you do the rock tunnel blind and it pissed me off.

Fun fact: On the Gameboy Color, if you picked the brown color scheme, you don't need flash at all. You can see the trainers/ladders as black silhouettes and the walls have white outlines.

This isn't about you per say, but I absolutely fucking hate that scrape every inch play through mentality, especially on the first play.

To me, it completely breaks any sense of immersion when you've spending more time in a guide or just griding over every screen looking for interactions. It seems like this has become the default way to play through open world game in the last several years. A game is suppose to be a personal experience, not a progress to completion bar.

I used to do this only using my starter until diamond and pearl. Hen I saw my friends team and he trained all of his Pokémon fairly evenly. I said, wow, I’ve never thought to do that. I can’t stop doing it now and the game hasn’t been quite as fun ever since.

I generally want money and xp, so I fight all of the trainers.

I'm pretty sure I've only grabbed flash once or twice in the many times I've played Red/Blue, just to see what Rock Tunnel looked like without the darkness. You can see the walls though, so you don't really need flash to get through it.

Yeah, I do that too. I fucking hated the Seafoam islands with a passion. Easy to get lost in. Only reason to go there is to get Articuno.
