Why do people hate these games again? They're honestly my second favorite right behind HGSS. Sure they were handholdy but all of the 3ds games were and they didn't get nearly as much hate as these games. The online was at its best competitive-wise and I sunk hundreds of hours into it.

As a casual (not competitive or motivated enough to breed for perfect IVs or do EV training) player who loves the original Joann games, should I like this? I've heard a lot of negativity about ORAS, and I generally feel that old Pokemon is better than new Pokemon, but I'm just looking for a new Pokemon experience to lazily waste time with. A fresh coat of paint on Ruby/Sapphire seems appealing.

I still enjoy Gen III for the regional dex and adventure, but I've only played through AS once with multiple attempts to play through OR, but I'm just not interested. I may be biased since I really didn't enjoy the jump to 3D in Gen VI, so I'd rather play RSE than ORAS.

I don't hate the games, I quite enjoy them actually, but there a lot of problems from the orginal games mixed in with newer ones. Some guy on Youtube made a 7 hour video pretty much breaking down the entire game better than I could ever do in single post here.

I'm not. I tried Pokemon Go and disliked it. I don't care to play pokemon competitively, but I don't want a completely braindead game either. I don't care for the candy shit, the catching chains, or other gimmicks in LGPE, and I don't approve of the content cut from previous gens.

They are improvements to Ruby and Sapphire. The problem is that it’s still not better than Emerald.

HGSS are treated with high regard because they didn’t just polish Gold and Silver, they fleshed out and added to what Gold and Silver already had going for it while ALSO including elements from crystal.

ORAS did the bare minimum with remaking it’s original version while FRLG and HGSS went above and beyond

Even the bad stuff sounds at least mildly interesting, like seeing how they fucked something up from a design perspective is something to think about.

Because it went out of it's way to actively ignore the improvements Emerald had, I'm not talking about the two teams story, which I'm sure they could've done a version of by only having the cover legend under go primal reversion, but skipping out on the improvements to major teams like Gym Leaders.
