The first island is kinda boring, but I feel that the game gets better from the second island and on, if you already defeated the Water Trial and still not feeling it, I recommend to just drop the game.

Third island is pretty great, island 4 is more of the same but island 3 is really where the game picks up and you start having fun again.

Both SM and USUM are weak entries in the series only barely propped up by the novelty of Alolan variants and Ultra Beasts. The region itself is junk and the routes are all bland and boring. There's only 1 or 2 fun dungeons and they are back loaded. Ultra Wormholes are wasted potential.

revolutionized the series replacing hms and gyms
tons of qol
has a big region tons of interesting shit
ultra wormholes are neat and you didnt even knew they were ultra exclusive
