You're overreacting. Yes, the region is here for the 5th time but for Johto it's just a bonus, a second region which isn't entirely necessary but still nice to have. Gen 2 and its remakes aren't centered around Kanto so it barely counts, in my opinion.

The last Kanto games came out in 2004. If you really want to nitpick, HGSS featured Kanto in the post game in 2008. The target audience of Pokemon has been and always will be kids. A majority of kids playing LGPE have never played a game featuring Kanto, let alone Gen 1 or a Gen 1 remake. I loved RBY as a kid, and enjoyed FRLG as a teen. I'm not buying LGPE, and i really wish it hadn't been so watered down, but... I'm completely fine with Gamefreak updating Kanto for the enjoyment of a new generation.

Today's youth in the West thrive on games that don't tell them anything and leave them to fend for themselves, which is one of the reasons the original Pokemon clicked so hard and so fast with everyone, and why meme games like Fortnite are all the rage.
LGPE doesn't have that same sense, and the patronizing gameplay just steers them away.
Furthermore, Pokemon was never fucking hard to begin with, seeing as how kids back in the Gen 1 days managed just fine.

I played through Lets Go and didn't realize how fucking tiny the actual map is when you have the ability to blaze through it with fast running speed, being able to avoid random encounters, and don't have to take into account resource management since you can just access your box at a whim and everyone gets EXP share.

As a kid, the Victory Tunnel was my bane. My poke kept fainting, I kept having to backtrack, I got lost a couple of times, the strength puzzles were slow. Lets Go, I had that shit done in ten minutes. If they were going to give people the ability to speed through the game without even trying to, they should've really widened up the maps a bit for modern mechanics.

Modern day children fucking hate reading of literally any kind. I babysit kids all the goddamn time and bring over some Zelda games to let them play and watch as they speed through the dialogue as fast as possible so they can "go fight stuff already" and then get lost two minutes later.

My buddy quit playing Pokemon around gen 3, but he's definitely a genwunner. I'm kind of interested to know if he's enjoying let's go because he typically plays changeling games. Gamefreak may have struck gold once with this new format, but they might not be as lucky next time around.

I think gamefreak is fully aware of how demanding their core audience is. If anything you should be more concerned about SM/USUM's effects on the next gen. Theres been problems for a bit now and LGPE is just a small symptom of a much larger problem at GF.

The thing is, it doesn't take a whole lot to satisfy us. We just want something that would keep us around for a longer period of time or something with good replayability. That's why people loved the Battle Frontier, it gave us a reason to play the game longer than we normally would. XY, ORAS, SM, and even USUM all gut a lot of post-game that existed in the past. Battle Tree was just the Battle Tower with Battle Legends added in, nothing spectacular. Online is great and all, but add some more features online so we don't get burnt out seeing the same stuff used over and over and over.

My thoughts exactly. Everyone's losing their shit over LGPE when the past few releases have been lackluster.

XY- not enough Pokemon in my opinion
ORAS- no battle frontier
SM- too easy, not enough new Pokemon
USUM- ultra changes. I felt like I was scammed paying 40 for that game.

sm/usum is completely and absolutely shit. never ending dialogs and cutscenes, even the pokedex wont stfu and teh game even has a built in walkthrough. its undenyable the worst games in the entire franchise.

Lets go PE is a way more pleasant experience, with no bullshit dialogs or cutscenes with the addition of lots of cool things like visible pokemons in the wild.

Even though the game lacks a few features the previous games had, it adds to its simplicity, and that only makes the game smoother. for the first time in years i actually had the will to play enough to make a full 6 team for pvp.

the gen 2/remake games are the same in physical layout only, but even then youre approaching them in a different order and with different plot elements driving you around

Blanes gym wasnt destroyed by a volcano in FR/LG or LGP/E either

Lets go displays more elevation in its map than any other depiction of kanto (RSE had map elevation so it was possible in gen 3)

It may be the same region, but its not exactly the same map.

Also it may be the 5th time for you, but youre not everyone, for some its their first time

Game Freak basically wanted the entirety of Japan for Gen 2, but cartridge limitations made them scale it back. Kanto apparently wouldn't have even been IN GSC if Iwata didn't design a GB-specific compression standard to make it fit.

I really don't get it. When I heard the early rumors that we'd be going back to Kanto, I was optimistic. I figured we'd be going back, but it'd be a big next gen leap... Think San Andreas vs GTA 5. An all new map built from the ground up.

But na, the SAME. FUCKING. MAP. It's awful, and I'm so fuckin' sick of it. It's not even a GOOD map. It feels claustrophobic, linear, small... That sense of exploration I felt as a kid simply can't be recaptured with this bullshit, and I don't know what kinda of Nostalgiahol people are drinking that makes them want to go back.

You obviously weren't alive to bear witness to the unbelievable hype machine that Gen 1 was granted access to. If you were a kid of a certain age back then you knew about pokemon, you barely had a choice in the matter. Pokemon was everywhere, on TV, in the playground, and plastered over every shop front.

People of my generation don't remember Gen 1 because they were good games. Heck, most people never owned a copy of Red or Blue. But between the cards, the cartoon and all of the other marketing, they all have a strong childhood memory of the franchise that Nintendo will not hesitate to exploit over and over again.
