Being able to see and interact with Pokemon in the overworld changes how the core of the game is played. If I see a Clefairy in Mt. To the series? It is. That's how fucking sad the state of this franchise is. They change so little that when they finally introduce overworld encounters like what JRPGs have been doing since the fucking 90s it's considered an innovation for the series. But it is. Dumping a bunch of models on the screen inherently changes how the game is played. Changing breeding rates doesn't change how breeding is done. It just makes it easier.

No. If I see a cool Pokemon in the distance I can go and encounter it. If I just want to avoid Pokemon I can run away from them. I actively play the game differently because of this change. With wild encounters I just walk randomly and hope something pops up.

Breeding is literally the same bullshit regardless of what they change.

It is broken, though. Modern Pokémon games are pretty much just rehashes of the same fundamental idea built around the limitations of a 30 year old piece of hardware that was 10 years behind the times with less horsepower than a dollar store calculator, the 3D transition only highlighted how truly dull and empty the world of a Pokémon game is and the utterly inconsequential nature of your existence in it.

Just look at how slow and awful this place is outside of hype season, pretty much the only thing that keeps the franchise alive is nostalgia and constant hope for a better future that never comes.

dude stop you're seriously try to convince people the game hasn't change since gen 3 when to trade you had to pull off a fucking link cable and go to someone else, when shit like Hitmonchan couldn't even use the punching moves because they were special, when 3rd stage pokemon like Beedrill were doomed to be bottom tier shitmons (also because lol literally zero moves), when you couldn't try a new strategy and change the sort of a battle with a mega or Z move

not really though, they've been experimenting with this since gen 5 and in ORAS i almost went off using exclusively the dexnav at some point so i'd say that was already a change but of fucking course random encounters have always been more prevalent when your game was on handheld only but it still doesn't change the fact that how GF implemented this in LGPE isn't so mind blowing because all you have to do is walk up to a Pokemon and trigger the encounter but i guess it's something you notice more because there's nothing else to do in the game besides that (and it doesn't help that the level design consists of the same squared shaped corridors either), when gen 8 comes if they pull out some monster hunter shit then i'll definitely top off my hat to GF but as it stands i'm not impressed
