Safari Zone should have stayed in and just had random encounters instead - the grass is too tall or something, so Pokemon can get the jump on you, and they're a bit rougher than the ones you find walking around, so you have to send out your Pokemon to soften them up.

Gameplay variety is good.

If anything they'd just be Post-Game trainers. Battle Tower trainers at least had variety and full move-sets with thought and synergy in them designed to make you prepare for anything. Master Trainers are just less than gimmicky sets that were extremely exploitable.

I'm gonna be honest, I slightly optimistic when I heard about them, was my fault for having hope I guess.

Yeah, Mauville's drastic expansion and the total reworking of the Abandoned Ship and Scorched Slab really soured me on the whole experience.

I guess we can just ignore all of the new Pokemon in the region though, and the fleshed out secret bases, and the mirage spots

That's the problem. Kanto is horrendously tiny and really fucking barren when you couple it with modern mechanics of fast moving speed, the ability to dodge random encounters, and remove resource management. There's a reason why B&W or D&P regions are fucking gigantic in comparison to Kanto.

I liked abilities. Added a challenging element to battles. Without it, I was able to just use Pikachu's dig on Weezing and Magnemite to one-shot them with no worries.

Why did they remove night from LPGE, why did they leave shinies, why do they now have GOOD STATS stickers if stats "aren't important to casual gamers". I also wish they made routes bigger (those around Saffron are the biggest offenders)
