Why didn't genwunners care about this game, /vp/?
I'm seeing so many people talk about how LGPE is their first Pokemon game since RBY. Was FRLG too hard or something?

Nah, purely time of release. when FRGL came out most kids who only played RBY would of been in their teens and Pokemon wasn't cool. People who genuinely enjoyed the series continued to play them regardless. Now, after Go, it's cool to like Pokemon again. I promise you half the Lets Go fanbase doesn't even know about FRLG.

When it came out I didn't know anyone else that would play it, or at the very least they would never admit it. Also, as much as I loved Gen 1, I didn't want to use my holiday money on a remake when I could just play the originals on my N64 still.

It also didn't help that I wanted to drop the series after playing Sapphire. I stopped playing after beating it and didn't touch the series until DP because my brother was old enough to play it, and I thought it would be neat to play along side each other.

The people I knew that liked Pokemon didn't get hyped up until Black and White were coming out. Then suddenly it wasn't lame to like kid things anymore and I think having slightly older protagonists helped.

1. When FRLG released, Gen 1 wasn't really old enough to be super nostalgic for a lot of people. It was only one console generation after RGBY that FRLG came around.
2. When FRLG released, Pokemon was at a relatively low and unpopular point, and many had just recently dropped Pokemon around GSC or RS.

I bought it and I was cautiosly pessimistic after the shitshow rs was.
Also it was the first time I felt scammed by gf by having to buy rb AGAIN to complete the dex.
Luckily they added sevii islands and other things which alleviated the feeling of being scammed, and the game was much more polished compared to the originals.
No one of my friends bought it because they moved on or they felt it was a scam as well.
I was rich, that's it.

That's how I discovered the whole wi-fi thing on the DS. I just went in the room at night one day for the gobal trade and was able to connect to my neighbors internet. I was so excited I traded for hours. It's too bad battle tower wasn't live battles in D/P.

Gewunner here, FRLG made me mad. It was the first remake and it meant that for the first time, a new generation of Pokemon fans would never play RBY/GSC and have the same shared reverence toward those titles. Nobody hated Gen 1 or 2, they started to dislike Pokemon beginning with RSE.
I was also pissed me off that Venusaur replaced Blastoise, and the music was shit.
Later on, Red becoming a distinct character from Ash had them competing against one another with fans. GF shills Red, but Red has almost no presence outside of the games. You have Red fans criticizing Ash as a choking loser, and Ash fans criticizing red as a self-insert Mary Sue who is portrayed in every game apperance after FRLG as the best trainer in Pokemon history (highest level, Battle Legend, etc.). Both are obnoxious and didn't exist prior to FRLG.

That's why the final product cut down the amount of babies considerably when it became apparent that Digimon wasn't at all a threat. Also note how Hoppip was redesigned. The only other time they feared a potential threat was YW and that's why Rotom Pokedex exists.

The best thing about FireRed is all the ROM hacks that spawned from it. The base game is OK, but it's far from perfect. There's a lot of content that's locked away from the player, like all of Hoeen Pokemon, and most cool Johto Pkmn, Mew, etc...

Reiterating, too soon. Pokemania had not been dead long enough for them to have their intended effect, and to the international audience they only came 6 years after the originals, on to hardware that could still play them no less. Imagine if 2019's games were XY remakes- too soon, right? Enjoyable games though, certainly glad we got them if Let's Go wound up being the alternative!

Just because he was twenty levels over everyone one else in the game doesn't mean he's the best. Hiis pokemon aren't even that challenging and he is so predictable in each game since we know he's going to make some cameo with the exact same mons this time around

This is the gen one reboot I bought OP. I dont have the cartridge anymore; but the team is saved on my copy of X uwu I've been playing pokemon since gen one and I enjoyed playing this version. Playing LG on emulator with a PMDB team atm and enjoying myself. Considering busting a nut for LGP/E...

The aesthetic alone is why Yellow is still my favorite Pokemon game.

There's enough QoL changes to LGPE that it's become my third favorite.

Im a gen wunner and gens 1,2 and 5 are my best gens 7 and 6 are really = to each other and gens 3=4 gen 2 is better than gen 1 but gen 1 is solid (why frlg and lgpe are so well at fleshing out kanto)

I remember begging my mom to buy LeafGreen for me back in 2004. Loved it and I loved the entire post-Elite Four story too.

I honestly don't know why they didn't try to incorporate a lot of things in Lets Go, but I guess GF wanted to keep it as barebones as possible for some reason.

Had nothing to do with college, but I first came to 4chan in 2010 before there was a pokemon board, and people were posting comics like these all over /b/. Also, alt art, which I thought was pretty cool. So I bought a DS on amazon and looked up what games there were. I saw leafgreen and soulsilver and that's when I got back into it. I eventually got firered too, but leafgreen blew me away. Didn't like the sevii isles.

I'm 30, so I was in middle school when gold/silver came out and it wasn't acceptable to be into it anymore (and frankly, I wasn't, I played my fill). I didn't like most gen 2 pokemon. My little cousin and his friend were into it, but they were done after that.

The time it took Gen 3 to come out meant that a lot of normies just outgrew Pokemon. Now, between a combination of nerdy things being cool, and Pokemon being old enough for a lot of those same normies to have genuine nostalgia for it, you've got shit like Go and LGPE being popular.

This is completely fucking stupid. Even if Gamefreak ever considered Digimon a threat (doubtful), it wouldn't have been until the anime was a certified hit, which wasn't until the mid-1999. By then Gold/Silver was already almost completed. Until that point, Digimon had middling populary, and wasn't a threat to anybody. And Digimon didn't even come out until mid-1997, just a few months before the Gold beta came out.

For your asinine idea to be true, Gamefreak would have had to felt threatened by a Tamagotchi clone with mediocre success right after Pokemon was confirmed a massive hit, thought that the baby stage Digimon were the draw for some reason and not the end stages, and designed a dozen baby Pokemon and programmed them into the beta within 3 months.
