Yes, definitely. But not sure about "Earth" being the term. Perhaps both get named "Ground" and that's it? The same for "Flying" type, it seems wrong. It should be changed to "Wind" type since Flying is regarding a very exclusive action and not so much an element (>muh Dragon type, >muh Bug type --- yeah, but in this case you have a better term than Flying to cover it).

Not really, but they’ve really let themselves go with design/type ties. In the first two or three gens typing difference is pretty obvious from the look of the mons, but gradually it starts to seem random at times

no but its just for the way they each interact with flying types.
I like how the effects represent an attack coming from the ground itself (like dig, earthquake) and a rock being thrown at a target. (like rock throw).

it's more of a tactical thing rather than element.

You could just have it so Flying Types are immune to "terrain moves" instead of Ground itself.

The Ground Type move Earthquake is a terrain move, so they're immune to it, but Mud Shot and Rock Throw aren't field moves, so they can hit and are super effective.

I don't really think they should be combined but I do think ground is kind of dumb in concept, and that MANY rock/ground types should just be rock.

Like ground is obviously "just ground" in concept but in excecution ground type pokemon are pretty much all just like small land mammals that are slightly too weird to be normal types, except for the ones that should just be rock types.

Thematically, it feels like Ground is more like "Soil" type, while Rock is truly rock. This is fucked up by Earthquake and Fissure being Ground moves though, since it's rocks that cause tectonic movements and shit. I don't know, I think it's too late to change it personally.

I think the idea of adding "flying" instead of "wind" is for it to make immediate sense for kids for the type chart. Flying types are super effective against bugs and grass types because those types of creatures are prey, but it wouldn't be immediately apparent if you used a wind type move.

What makes no sense is that Rock and Ice are supposed to be defensive types, evidenced by dialogue in all media and GF typing most Rock and Ice to be slow with high defense/bulk, but they're weak to most offensive types that make the Pokemon useless overall.
Meanwhile, GF cripples all fast Rock types like Archeops or Lycanroc, while also making their physical stab moves inaccurate. It's like they intentionally want these types to be shit and used only by NPC mooks.

Honestly not separating rock and crystal is more dumb. Like earth is made up of organic matters and loose materials like clay and sand, compared to how rock is very distinctly a solid and specific material. There a lot more of a difference between earth and rock than there is between rock and crystal. Like rock and crystal is just rock and pretty rock.

Go outside and grab some pebble/stones. Those are rocks/stones. The grab a handful of dirt/soil, that is ground/earth. They're 2 different things and anyone who thinks they should be one is a brainlet NPC

I've always had a conflict with this because I love a lot of rock/ground types and want to monotype team them only to realize the team I want would not be monotype
