Similar to the west where a woman's aging mom might start pestering her to find a husband and give her grandchildren. Anime has kind of made it into a trope with characters like Misato in Evangelion.
Like most anime concepts, I doubt it's very realistic to actual Japanese society, but I gotta admit a feisty, slightly jaded older lady waifu is right up my alley so whatever.
