>>37104145>>37104145Theres 4 lead pokemon situations.
Suicide lead (exclusively a hyper offense team pick) hp and typing arent that important. All it needs is a threatening stab, hazards, and other good lead moves like priority or switch initiative including explosion. Some even have intimidate or sturdy which helps alot since they dont need a sash.
Anti lead: if a team is really pressured by hazards or just needs a good lead match up against a common suicide lead pick, then they use a taunt/magicbounce/sash breaker to beat suicide leads and stop balance teams from leading with their rock setter.
Scout: usually a mon with switch initiative that threatens leads or early game breakers to give you more flexibility. A good scout helps you distinguish the enemy team movesets and lets you get momentum early in the game by forcing your opponent to switch out of their lead/sac it and then uturn/volt switching into a different mon. Stuff like scyther in nu is the best example i can think of.
Lead match up: your team has no dedicated lead or your scout sucks ass at the lead match up. You either send your hazard setter in turn 1 or you send in a mon that you think pressures their lead pokemon the most. This is the most common lead situation so mostly its just mind games of checking your opponents potential options.
Galvantula is a suicide lead that sets hazards, beats out common leads with bug and grass coverage, and threatens anti leads with thunder stab. Its also got amazing speed for a lead mon.
