I always pick her because she's super cute, but she is ALWAYS garbage in-game, even outside Johto. Even in fangames that give her good moves.

It may have to do with the fact that I never evolve her until the E4 and refuse to let Bayleef evolve any further.

Treecko, it didn't get a second type after evolving, Blaziken's Fire/Fighting was new and exciting at the time and Swampert's Water/Ground is a solid type combo with only a weakness to Grass that was covered with Ice moves.

I still think that goes to gen 4

Nape and Empoleon were both legitimately great during their debut gen, and Torterra was ok. In RSE only Swampert was good. Blaziken was always seen as a lesser Nape until it got Speed Boost and Sceptile was entirely trash until it got a Mega.

You mean when its signature move became physical and instead of switching Sceptile's special and physical stats (because he was only a special attacker due to the fact that grass was always special) they just doubled down on the special shit by giving him a bunch of lame special attacks and a specially oriented mega EVEN THOUGH HIS DESIGN JUST SCREAMS PHYSICAL ATTACKER

Same problem with Blaziken having above average special attack. They wanted him to be able to use blaze kick and shit in gen 3, so they gave him pretty good special attack on top of having fantastic physical attack. Now the bastard can be a mixed attacker even though it makes no sense looking at his design.

Blaziken was OU in RSE, and even after that Blaziken was only seen as a lesser nape for a whopping one generation.

Sceptile is pretty shitty to use in-game RSE compared to Blaziken or Swampert. Mono-Grass-type is shit, it doesn't learn any decent special move outside of Leaf Blade, and its Attack is mediocre, so shit like Brick Break and Earthquake are wasted TMs on it

Not really. Alot of ppl liked mudkip but hated swampert, so most ppl either chose torchic for the eventual blaziken or sceptile for the cool gecko lizard, plus leaf blade caught alot of ppls eye

Blaziken was the cool one, Swampert was the useful one and Sceptile was the weird lanky looking Dino with a tree up it’s ass.

It of course didn’t help that Treeko was nowhere near as cute as Mudkip or Torchic

I imagine Treecko is least picked, as other starters might be more cuter. Unless they have good appearance, grass starters are always less popular. There's also the fact that Treecko's last form is pure grass, despite others having two types.

You're actually right on the money, anon. I realized I never did a complete Sceptile run before, so decided to give it a shot last month on an old copy of Sapphire. The fact that only Treeko was capable of naturally learning Giga Drain instead of Grovyle/Sceptile was a huge misstep. And adding Brick Break/Earthquake for coverage didn't really help much either. My Everstone Vigoroth and Walrein ended up contributing way more.

Most sites use more up to date artwork so people are more likely to post it when they just want to find a picture of a mon to make a point.
