Typhlosion is my favorite starter and I still don't mind the 3D model at all desu, it's pretty obvious the flames are only active in certain situations.

I don't feel like collecting together a bunch of examples, but I think a big problem a lot of the models for earlier gen Pokemon have is that a there's just too fat. Like there's a lot of Pokemon that are already bulky or have bottom-heavy proportions, and the models are really lazy with them and often make them too fat or have these weird overly round lower bodies.

I can sort of see the problem with Butterfree if I do this. Its proportions are more similar to the very first art drawn of it then anything later on.

It's kind of weird, when they decided to use the Pokécenter art for DreamWorld in gen V, they updated Butterfree's art to reflect the bigger head, yet it is gone in the model in gen VI.

Butterfree, Blastoise and Eelektross look fine though. It flapping it's fins looked stupider than it actually moving like a lamprey eel. IDK what's wrong with butterfree, and Blastoise just needs better animation (this goes for a lot of pokemon desu. more texturing and animation would go a long way)

nobody's doing that though and even then, it's still preferable to those awful over-animated Gen 4 sprites we got for Gen 5 even if it is lacking compared to the spinoffs

Every 3D model of Butterfree looks kind of wonky. It's because Butterfree's 2D art never has to worry much about its wings making sense as long as it looks okay. If you turned most of those 2D Butterfree depictions sideways, its wings would be clipping through its head (or just sticking out of its head in a couple of those). The 3D model has to take things like that into account and design the model accordingly.
