No, but then again, people are either too stupid to see or are blithely ignoring the paradigm shift at Game Freak and TPCi. For years, TPCi not only spat out Poklémon side games on the Nintendo consoles of the day, they also released games on the newer consoles the year before Game Freak were due to drop a new Core game on the newer hardware. But TPCi killed their console-based spin-offs, due to diminishing sales (makes sense, they''re a business and if people aren't buying your product in enough numbers to justify the expense of making it,), moving into the Mobile Gaming sector (and owing it, with GO). However, Game Freak need time to make a Core game (at least 3 years per entry) and the loss of the side games meant there would now be years where there was no Pokémon release to keep the brand visible (and given the scare they got from Yo-Kai initially, that's something they want to avoid at all costs). So they hired a raft of new staffers and started making the spin-offs themselves because they realise a Game Freak-made spin-off will still sell due to their name. It's already surpassed total sales for most other spin-off series, let alone standalone games. (the distinction they made between the Core games and LGEP's Mainline entry, along with Masuda basically confirming Let's Go would become its own series if successful underline this). They're not giving up their Bread-and Butter, the games they started making and are continuing to do so currently with Gen VIII for next year. But they also realise the franchise needs exposure every year or they risk losing ground.
