Personally in my own opinion, the feel of a Pokémon game was lost with X and Y. Ever since black and white 2, all the subsequent releases have felt really hollow to me. Idk, it might just be me getting older but I’m not getting the same satisfaction playing the games as I did back before BW2. Kinda makes me sad to think I might never get to experience a Pokémon game like I used to again

As time goes on the only thing that changes about Pokemon is they add more story. X/Y had the most story so far and it's the least liked games. Perhaps people just dislike Pokemon story telling.

Gen 5 is so weird to me. On one hand I really like it. I enjoyed it at the time, and I enjoyed it a lot recently when I replayed it over the summer. But at the same time, I can’t help but see it as the beginning of the mess we have now. I can’t pinpoint why either.

I get you. I personally feel like that Gen V (and B2W2 especially) represents the apex of the of the series. However, I can't deny that many of the tumors that have metastasized and are now killing Pokemon first appeared with Black and White. Focusing too hard on people instead of the Pokemon in storytelling, overly enforced linear region design, and turbocharging the power creep for power creep's sake are all negative trends that really came to prominence with the Unova games. Gen V just did a better job of keeping those elements in their proper places than subsequent entries: N's unorthodox relationship to Pokemon still made up a large portion of his characterization (compared to Lillie's defining relationship being to... her mother), the linearity of the region was an unfortunate consequence of how Game Freak was trying to make a character-driven story for really the first time and still came with a healthy dose of dungeon exploration (something that Kalos and Alola especially have sorely lacked), and the Hidden Abilities and minor legendaries that defined Gen V's power creep could still go largely unnoticed by the casual player since they didn't really impact the campaign (while Gen VI and VII used Megas and later Z moves and Tapus/Ultra Beasts as marketing tools).

Z was going to be so good. XY weren't bad but they were kind of mediocre. We accepted it, because they'd just spent the resources to move to 3D. They didn't have time to work on a Battle Frontier or anything like that. But Z! Z was going to be great, you guys.

And then it didn't come. Honestly GF should have spent an extra year finetuning the XY formula into Z before moving on to SM. But I guess they know that 3rd versions don't sell as well as the base ones so they just rushed a whole new mainline game asap.

Yeah, I'm not saying I didn't like them. I still like all of them minus Trash Go, I'm just not willing to forgive the flaws like so many retards do without question and in the face of a couple dozen facts that say their opinion is wrong.
