Gen7 with it's bottlecaps is a big step in the right direction. Sadly the ways to obtain the caps are still god-awful and RNG-ridden to the point where you are likely better off injecting still to save yourself the couple hundred hour grind. Unless you ofc own multiple copies and 3ds's and can spend all day fucking with the festival plaza, I've heard that you can rack them up quickly by doing that but as a single-player endeavor it still takes hundreds of hours to max one mon out.
