DexNav was an improvement, but overworld pokemon is really the best solution. There's no reason for a JRPG to have random encounters in 2018 and beyond. If it must be done, they should at least go the Bravely Default route and allow you to toggle the rate (or turn it off). And anyone claiming that makes it too easy or whatever needs to shut up since that's effectively what Repels are for, except you waste time buying them and using them.

Here's my proposal. The next game should have two playmodes selectable from the start. Normal, which uses the standard mechanics, and casual, where the Pokemon literally throw themselves at you for you to catch them like in LGPE.

I'll bite. Other than wasted time, what is the effective difference between going to the mart and buying 99 super repels, using them at the entrance to a cave, then clicking "yes" every so many steps, or just going into a menu and toggling "repel mode" (or "lure mode", as it were)?

There's literally no difference. One just wastes your time more.

Again, really simple solution. Offer a submenu in game with 3 modes. "Normal", "Repel" and "Lure". Offers a toggle between no encounters, regular encounter rate, or high encounter rate, when and where you want it.

If "muh challenge" is the issue (and lets be honest, wild battles are almost never challenging), make it untoggleable in supposedly challenging areas (again, this is what BD/BS did, and it works fine).

How? I don't think you actually realize what you're arguing here, because the mechanic is already in place, it's just gated behind a lot of A presses and trips to the store in the form of repels. What I'm arguing for literally already exists in the game. Unless the point you're making is that repels shouldn't exist.

No, I'm saying the system already exists but requires you to waste your time doing pointless filler in order to activate it, when the same result could be obtained with a toggle.

You know, like when they added item shortcuts so you could just press one button to get on the bicycle or use a fishing rod instead of opening the menu, paging to the key items list, scrolling down to the item, and using it every fucking time? It's called a quality of life improvement. Oh wait, I'm sure to you, that's just "casualization".

A quality of life improvement is being able to buy repels ingame and re-apply them automatically with a button press. Casualization is when you thoughtlessly make repels obsolete by adding in a toggle that completely disables wild encounters.

their random nature that is. Imo there is positives in the overworld encounters as long as wild monsters actually fight back, otherwise it would just be a huge safari zone, and trainers would only need to carry berries/candies and pokeballs (pokemon are unnecessary). So LGPE did make a good first step, they just need to take it a step further.
